What do you think?

Should the BOE spend $25,000 on a superintendent search with a head hunter or
take advantage of the free services offered by QUESTAR and bank the cash in anticipation of the cuts in funding next year?

Just wondering......

Bill,

Glad to see you are back.

Please tell us why the school days has "shrunken", and please tell us if the BOE approved this change?

Answers.

@8:42 - No, the BOE made that call. Move up from inside seemed to be the thing to do, WRONG!

@9:40 - Basically the same. Different people doing the leg work, drawing from the same pool, advertising in the same places.

@ 6:54 - Two different, neither connected.

@6:55 - I don't believe that the BOE voted or made the decision. The fact that it was done says that it was approved by someone. I will check.

Bill,

At the next BOE meeting, PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF ALL, ask the following 2 questions, and keep asking until you get answers:

- Where are the Questar GWS financial numbers and when was the last lease contract signed?

- Why were the elementary school hours changed? When and how can they be brought back to where they were? What are the obstacles we need to deal with to right this wrong?

Please do not let this go.

And please do not let the BOE spend $25,000. on something that we as a District, should know how to do. After all these years, we should be well equipped to source and interview qualified candidates for Superintendant.

I've got an idea - get a group of educated community members (6-8) to be the Selection Committee. And they can not have any past or current financial ties to the District. An independent group that would make a recommendation to the BOE. Head hunters are a waste of money, and Questar has enough of our money and property. Tap into the talent in this community - it is free, and not everyone wants to get something from APCSD. Ask for professional talent - it is out there, but if you never ask, you will never know who is out there.

Bill I have a few questions for you #1 What can be done about only having 1 line in the cafe at the high school??? Every lunch is packed and having 1 line is making it so kids do not have enough time to eat lunch. The principal is well aware and says she cant do anything. #2 The cashier at the high school along with a few other lunch ladies are very rude and nasty. For example today a student was short 20 cents in her account and her food was taken away from her and she was told she can't have any lunch unless she has enough money in her account. I believe if parents were denying their child food CPS would be at our door.. Why is it the school can do that and see nothing wrong with denying a child food and humiliating them in front of people to cause a student to break down in tears?? again the principal was notified and her response was there is nothing she can do.... Lastly the new bus routes SUCK we have buses that are so overcrowded that students are having to stand up. I think that is a huge safety issue. Finally we have children on mini buses who are not special ed or may be special ed but it isnt in their IEP for them to have a mini bus. The parents and students are out raged that their children are on mini busses. Is this all a ploy for parents to vote yes for new buses???

Bill,

Why not ELIMINATE the High School cafeteria cashier(s), and go to a system, where parents order on-line, pay on-line, and students bring in PAID RECEIPTS for their lunch?

Think about it! Parents would be able to know what food choices the kids are making (more at the elementary level), and school would know what is being ordered, etc.

Are you going to tell me the IT department at APCS, CAN'T make that happen?

Ummmm... don't we have a system where the parents CAN pre-buy lunch and snacks on line?? The kids just give an id or name and their account is looked up!

Here is the information:

You can prepay for meals and snacks by sending cash or a check to the school cafeteria. The money will be applied to your child’s cafeteria account that day. There is no fee for this prepayment method.
You can also pay online by setting up an account with MealpayPlus.com You will need your child’s student ID # to set up the Mealpay account. Contact Mealpay at 1-877-237-0946 for their ID#.. THERE IS A PROCESSING FEE IF YOU MAKE AN ONLINE PAYMENT (fee is 4.75% of your deposit)
When you put money on their account you must specify whether you want the money deposited in the “Meal Account” or “General Account”. Money in the meal account can only be used for one breakfast and one lunch each day. Money in the “General Account” can be used for meals, snacks, milk, extra items, a second lunch, snack milk etc.
Students who are eligible for free or reduced price meals(.25 per meal) get one breakfast and one lunch each day. Snack milk and Kindergarten snack milk must be purchased.
All students are given a 4 digit Personal Identification Number(PIN) to access their cafeteria accounts. All students access their accounts the same way by using their 4 digit PIN. Kindergarten students will be given temporary index cards with their name and PIN. The cards will be used until the students learn their numbers.

The BOE agenda is posted and once again there is no mention of an answer to Bill's question for a GWS/Questar financial update. Has the administration answered this question? Bill, have you received an answer, but have not posted results? Why hasn't there been a public answer?

When you pre-pay NOW, you send money, don't know WHAT your kid orders, and are never quite sure when the kid will be "Bonesteel bounced" out of the lunch line!

What I was suggesting is VERY different from what we have - you see parents currently BLINDLY fund a kids meal account - for example, you have NO SAY over the food choice the kid makes (and we wonder why there is no "home-school connection" here?). Parents should authorize the payment AND meal choice (very far from the current system), and many times, unless you as a parent have nothing better to do, you don't know until AFTER THE FACT, that your kid got denied lunch (how many times do you check to see if you are overcharged or not?). I personally do NOT fund my kids account, with huge sums of money. I personally do not trust the current lunch system - ever try to READ one of those statements - and decifer where you money went - or what your kid ate? Pin number - big deal, that is not what I was suggesting - personally, CASH should not be accepted at APCSD, as lunch payment (removes the theft aspect), and NO there should not be a PROCESSING FEE - APCSD should find a better vendor - I'm sure they are out there - for both food service (Chartwell's?) and food payment (Meal Pay is a joke).

There is nothing "user friendly" about Meal Pay OR the high school cafeteria lunch "bouncer".

But, don't forget, it's all about the Benjamins - and not the kids.
