Comments from a transportation employee

Have had parents on my run asking why R they getting home so late?
Get to a school, bus isn't even shut off R putting the kindergartners on RIGHT AWAY!! Can't use the rest rms. been on our bus' about an hr or more & have an hr + to go, (is this not healthy or even illegal!!) Sitting on bus till they let other grades out, sitting at least 20 min or more before they allow us to leave or loaded, little 1's R very squirmy, tired, noisy, hot, uncomfortable, about another 45-60 minutes on bus!! This is good weather!! We as drivers (most I should say)are sorry for all this, but had no HAND in what is taking place, meaning how runs R being done, worked last year, the runs & dismissal, told they were done this way BC of dismissal times, makes no sense BC for an ex: U have 3 bus' doing same HS run 1 bus did last year, on time, could use the rest rooms, being told it wouldn't work? 1ex. of 50 plus runs more or less like this!! Have never seen anything like this, we realize runs change but the DRASTIC CHANGE beyond drivers comprehension! This 1 run has 3 bus', 1 bus goes 1 way, the other pass students standing waiting for their bus, " saving money" HOW? 3 bus' what 1 BUS DID on time! Waste of time, fuel, mileage & have us loaded!! Drivers being told to re-write runs, EXCUSE ME? WHY? The job of the people in our office over the summer to do? What did they do all summer long?? I can tell U what some did, were on Facebook, looking up jokes etc & Supervisor hardly there ever, came in most times when we left for our AM runs was gone before we got back from PM run!! & gets paid what?! For what!!? I know!! To go run for parts for the bus', part stores deliver! Always going for parts or in the garage with the guys more than she is at her desk!! We R not being paid to write runs, we may have to critique but not re-write,R responsible to drive & be safe, also R crossing some kindergartners on major roads!!! We never use to EVER!! DANGEROUS! Have added more roads and increased student load but,here's a funny 1 we can't figure out, have taken time from runs!! How does that work? doesn't take someone with a PHD to figure out that doesn't make sense!!! Have a sub driver going out & doing runs with FT drivers reporting to supervisor & telling her what she thinks should be done, EXCUSE ME, we have a VERY COMPETENT Head Bus Driver be given that responsibility? Sure she wouldn't mind ( matter of fact know she wouldn't mind!!) Sub drivers on the 1ST couple of days of school just sitting in the brake room in case they were needed! $17 an hour each!! They live close enough to call, Head Bus Driver if needed for a run she was there, subs sitting & being paid!! We R treated pretty bad by our supervisor, but no 1 is listening to us haven't been since she walked in the door!! She isn't listening to parents, she hardly returns their calls, & basically blow smoke up your____!!, Call the new Interim Superintendent Mr Michael Marcelle #674-7066 and let him know what is going on, concerns, maybe just maybe something will be done, TALK TO HIM, not Mike Oumiet, he doesn't care, a very nasty person to deal with & will go on deaf ear just like the Supervisor.U think you're confused & frustrated, just imagine how we feel! The new Superintendent seems like he may take things by the horn when he knows things aren't right, don't forget he's not from around here, so "He has no 1 in his pocket & vise versa. Good luck, we understand exactly where U R coming from, we R in the same boat trying to do a good job for you & keeping your children safe. The stress we are feeling this year is like no other (Drivers/Monitors).

I for 1 appreciate my children's bus driver and put no blame on them for the way the routes were done this year. I have called 6 times regarding my concerns for my childs bus and have not received a phone call yet. I am now at the point where I may show up at the bus garage and not leave until I get answers on why my childs bus is over capacity and kids are standing

I have called 6 times left messages no call back. I called my childs building principal he called transportation and they told the principal they would call me back that day and 2 days later still no call back. Im sorry but if you cant do your job and return phone calls then you do not deserve the job. I will try and call Mike

I appreciate your comment on how you apprerciate your childs bus driver & put no blame on them, that's really nice to hear from parents, Thank you. There is another problem with this loading at 9 after 3, in the winter don't think you parents know but by law the bus' are not allowed to be kepted running so we can maintain the heat on the bus, so your little ones will be sitting & the bus will need to be shut down for a bit and started back up & only at 5 minute intervals!! Let me tell you those bus' lose heat fast, so they will be on at 9 after & God only knows how long it will be till they allow us to leave!! Please call Mr. Michael Marcelle. No she doesn't deserve the job at what she is paid!! She's starting her stuff with leaving before the last bus is in the garage at night, we were wondering how long it was going to take her to be doing this again like she did last year!!

You're going to be told the bus' hold 66!! But in all honesty, New York State Law really doesn't like us to use the last 2 seats in a bus BC they are considered the most dangerous seats on a bus!! & what are we going to do when they have snow suits on & band equipment & all the extra for winter, those kids are going to be MUSHED into those seats!! Now if a parent isn't home & we have made an attempt to try to get a hold of someone we're are being told to go back around after our run is done, mind you we asked this question in our refresher class what R we 2 do if no parent is home? We were told to bring the student back to the garage. But now being topld to go around again it could be at the very begining of the run & you don't go back around that way to go back to the garage but now we are, drivers not getting in till sometimes 5 or later, again being told 1 thing & then it changes as always, everyday seems like something different, I can say it's never boaring at that garage, & have never seen the morale like it has been, & the # of people saying they are looking for other jobs, keeping their eyes & ears open. Really sad to see & feel this way when U have so many good people doing a difficult job of making sure YOUR CHILDREN ARE SAFE, was ALWAYS SAFETY FIRST, & alot of us feel this is not the case as they have the runs now & # of students on bus'

Here's a prime example of what happens when you use a independent bus company. Michael Ouimet should stop threatening the bus drivers with laying them all off and hiring an independent bus company and having the bus drivers have to re-apply, Of course it would help AP if we didnt have Danielle and had someone competent

TROY, NY (WTEN) - The Troy School District has been experiencing difficulties in their transportation system this year, causing many students to be late arriving to school and missing classes.

Interim Superintendent of the Troy School District, Dr. Brian Howard, said in his 40 years of education he has never seen such a fiasco as what's occurring right now with their transportation system.

Right now the Durham Bus Company is contracted to pick up and drop off all students attending Troy schools. However the company did not have enough drivers or buses, and they didn't do any dry runs in the summer causing major delays.

Dr. Howard said he expects to have all the issues worked out by this coming Monday.

He also said people with the bus company and the school district will be held accountable for whatever mistakes that were made.

Mr. Marcelle NEEDS to hear the issues, from the beginning.

Personally, when Danielle Porier does not return your call, within a reasonable amount of time, then call Mr. Marcelle. Why go up the "chain of dysfunction".

Better yet, why not ask our lovely BOE members to work at the bus station (should have been last week), to see what is going on? Again BOE, get up off your butts, and go out and SEE what is going on. Perhaps a few of you could have helped "man the phones" at he bus garage, last week. God forbid, any of you might see what is actual happening!!!

Wake the hell up, and DO SOMETHING!!!

I really do appreciate my child's bus driver and that is why i have not said anything to them about my frustration with this new route. I know they have no control over the route and there is nothing they can do and i would hate for them to think i am blaming them. Tammy and danielle need to go.

A driver who had an opinion (his)& (is a TAX Payer) put into the Advertiser said how he was basicly feeling & now has a meeting with Danielle & Mike Ouimet, hope he brings someone to the meeting with him, does he not have the right of Freedom Of Speech without feeling threatend by the two of them?? What this driver said in the Advertiser was the truth, he didn't slander anyone,threatend anyone, called anyone names just stated how he felt, does the Union of the drivers, Mr. Marcele or the Board Of Education know about this, now drivers or employes aren't safe to write what the truth is without feeling threatend? What the TRUTH HURTS?? Is anyone listening to the drivers & monitors & all what seems like legitimate concerns & when will they smooth out for them, we are going to be losing some good people who we trust with our children.

Of course,
Extreme disappointment that this continues.
Frustration because we haven't been able to make the changes necessary.
Fear that some will simply accept rather than continue thru the next year to complete the changes needed.
I do have some statistics that you will find interesting. Next post.

The last post by Communicus, said changes? statistics we will find interesting? Please don't keep us in suspense, tell us, very interested. The only thing that may boost the spirits at transportation is holding the door open for Danielle & Tammy & send them packing!! Rotten ATTITUDES!!! And on their way go pick Mikey Baby up, take the little man with ya, ask Head Bus Driver if she is interested in being Supervisor? She is more than qualified & she treats people like they are human beings she doesn't act like she is above you, yells at you,threaten you, and you don't feel like you're being Bullied by her, she'll get to the bottom of a situation, not just tell you she will!! Doesn't treat one person one way and another another way, she's a straight shooter, honest, sincere, not a phony,then you have other qualified drivers who have the certificates & training to do what she does now to help her out that all work well together, work as a TEAM, that's how it use to be there a TEAM, now you're just Bullied, Threatend, screamed at, Excuse me most have suffered this treatment from her (Danielle) like I said it depends on who you are is how you get treated. Is anyone REALLY LISTENING TO WHAT IS TAKING PLACE at the Transportation Dept?

Why did Mike Ouimet write an internal AP memo, for the bus proposal, that shows the actual proposed cost for replacement busses, being $2,000 LOWER than figure he has asked the public to vote on???

Is that how we pad budgets in AP? And we wonder why the public doesn't trust anyone?

Why is there no info on the bus vote?Why are busdrivers never happy? Why are the bosses so bad?Who was the last boss they liked? Hows that new union working out for you? How about a sitting rate maybe$8 an hour.

Yes, you are right Mike Marcelle is response, unfortunetly in his words, "my hands are tied", nice guy, but no help. Danielle needs to go, she is useless, unless of course YOU can "benefit" her. Why does everyone have to step over Danielle to try to get anywhere. Michael Ouimet is not worth your breath! I wanted a board discussion regarding both my childrens bus issues. THE NERVE OF THE BOARD! DECIDED TO NOT DISCUSS IT, CONTACT ME TO EVEN LET ME KNOW!!!! No response to my emails or request to be heard. They decided to let Mike Marchelle give me the news that my topic was not worth discussion as their children had issues too! WOW, what a way to handle a problem! No respect left for this current board! They all need to go! Do they forget they were elected by us to help us! to decide to not even here us should be totally unacceptable! Boy do they feel powerful with Jo gone. We all know Jo put the fear of God in them, in my opinion, they feel very powerful now. We have bus drivers that say our kids are unsafe and they choose not to discuss it! Guess they will wait till there is a tragedy, then possibly they will listen. SHAME ON YOU AVERILL PARK BOARD OF DIRECTORS! I will be sure to vote against everyone of you!

One more comment. I would like to thank our bus drivers for standing up and showing concern for the safety of our kids. Thank God the union will protect you from being fired as we all know they would love to do.
