Comments please?

This came over from the Unmoderated site. I was asked to comment for accuracy.

My coments are in (bold)

Since we had to cut MILLIONS of dollars from our budget, how can we think that the children would not suffer? Teachers and their benefits are expensive. Yeah, I know, I know, cut more admin, but they did cut positions there too and took on more work (ie department heads). The school district is fairly large and needs some leadership.

(We had to cut millions but it didn't need to be from kids. There were many other lines in the budget that could have been trimmed, not allowed to be touched by the Admin.)
Teachers and their benefits are expensive (true)

Not just teachers, but all employees/benefits are expensive to all businesses. I think that we get what we pay for. Do we want a Walmart level of education for our youth? Looks good in the package, but never functions in real life the way that the competitors do. Our community has said, pretty clearly, that they are NO longer funding education for our youth to the same degree that we have seen in the past. How long will the good teachers stay if they can get more respect, support and salary elsewhere? Are we going to burn them all out with the bigger class sizes, less support etc.? You may not agree, but I still find all of this mess very, very sad.

Not just teachers, but all employees/benefits are expensive to all businesses. ( Benefits are expensive, sharing the cost more equally in private industry makes things better)
I think that we get what we pay for. Do we want a Walmart level of education for our youth? Looks good in the package, but never functions in real life the way that the competitors do. (In reality, a Wilson tennis ball from Walmart is the same as one from Macys and you can purchase twice as many. Shopping at Macys doesn't necessarily get you a better product)
Our community has said, pretty clearly, that they are NO longer funding education for our youth to the same degree that we have seen in the past. (Yet they had nearly the same budget forced down their throat thru a contingency declaration)
How long will the good teachers stay if they can get more respect, support and salary elsewhere? Are we going to burn them all out with the bigger class sizes, less support etc.? ( The teachers didn't get support from the Admin. this year. Can you say pink slips? Who are you trying to make responsible? Respect, support and salary are all here, especially for the lifers. Class size is probably not the negative you think, especially with an aide in the class or second teachers for core items)

Please note that I did not attack ANYONE; I simply expressed my opinion. I hope for the same respect. I do not have a personal disagreement with anyone! Disagree with me, convince me of your views, but just skip the degrading remarks, please.

Hope this helps. No attack, just reality....

So at the end of the day, will Sharon Lawrence step up into the Supt. job, and THEN the other BOE members will see the reason to eliminate the Asst. Supt. job??????? They fought Soooo hard to keep that position, didn't they :)

As you have seen, the BOE moved rapidly to get an OUTSIDE interm Super.

He was in place before her seat had cooled. I believe (I can't tell you why) that the next hire will also be from outside the district. We really need fresh people with new perspectives to take the reigns.

Bill,
When does Dori get officially on the board? Will Dori be able to vote on who will be president?

Could you tell us when the next board meeting is, the only one posted on the district site is for June 28, none after that.

The next BOE meeting is July 12th.
Stop by and watch. It should be interesting.

Bill,

Just watched the BOE video!!!!

Can someone please explain to Jessica who OCFS is?

Boy, she really likes that phrase "with the information we had" - is that going to be her campaign slogan - "I did the best I could with the info I had, and even though I voted to close an elementary school, don't blame me, cause I didn't have very good information"? Is she EVER going to ask an intelligent QUESTION, or does she believe in EVERYTHING, Mikie tells her??? Somebody better tell her the Easter Bunny and Santa aren't real, because I'm starting to think she believes everything she is told. What a little tool she is!!!!

And Mikie - he NEVER has the information you want, but ALWAYS has the "unofficial data" nobody asked for - tell him to report only OFFICAL FACTS, from here on in - otherwise he is wasting everyone's time with his "unoffical" fact gathering about after school programs! What a scammer!!!! He should be selling cars in a used car lot somewhere, with the way he presents "facts"!!!!

Could you throw some of the interesting things out there, that way we might get some more people at the meetings, and people can actually have some insight to their bitching and complaining, I mean it helps if you go to a meeting once in a while, and show your faces, instead of waiting for someone else to inform you of what was said.

I highly doubt that attendance numbers at BOE meetings, is the determining factor, over whether or not things will change in APCSD.

As evidenced by the hug numbers of families who came out to protest and fight against the GWS school closings, BOE attendance numbers have NOTHING to do with CHANGE!!!!!! There is no correlation, or else GWS would not be closed - right?

The GWS families were "informed" and involved at BOE meetings, every step of the way - attendance at BOE meetings means nothing!!!!!

Will Dori be sworn in at tonight's BOE meeting? Is this the night that a new BOE president will be voted on?
